Is it possible to do away with Caste System in India

Caste system is known in Hindi (Indian language) as Jati (Caste) Jo Jatee Nahi (is eternal). Not that caste system is new thing to the world. It always exists everywhere. However, there is a great difference in caste system followed in India and all other countries in the world. In India caste is related to 'Roti' and 'Beti'. This means eating together and marriages are decided based on caste of a person. In certain castes 'Roti' is allowed with people from other castes but 'Beti' is strictly within the caste itself. In many cases there are division of caste in to sub castes. Among sub castes 'Roti' is allowed but not 'Beti'. This is not only true for Hindu religion but also for other religions like Islam and Christen. Social workers have tried their the best but have failed miserably. Politicians have never tried to do away with this dark spot so far. In fact it suits them in getting votes in election based on caste. Election analyses before and after election does predict and confirm effect of caste of voters. This is found to be a bigger obstacle in progress of nation than any other short coming. Is there any way to do away with this system? Education has some effect on this system. However, it is not widely accepted by the society. There is need to find a solution though.

In India there is reservation in various fields like education and employment. There are the government schemes for a particular caste or religion. There is tension among society due to this reservation. Some caste which are not given any reservation in education complain that admission for a particular course could not be obtained in spite of scoring say 90% marks and on other hand a particular person got admission although he/she scored only 70% marks. A student can't understand history of reservation while thinking about admission. He/she only knows that admission could not be secured because of reservation. The fundamental problem remains that each and every student cannot get admission. Even if reservation is done away with there shall be students who obtained say 85% marks and could not get admission for a preferred course of education. The basic reason is a student from a certain caste with his/her background cannot score more although he/she is equally intelligent. Therefore, reservation had been thought as a method to improve certain castes which are lagging behind the society in fields of education and employment. In my opinion this evil can be used as an advantage to do away with caste system.

Reservation policy should be changed. The reservation should be based on caste of candidate's grand parents or great grand parents rather than caste of the candidate. If parents of a person belong to different caste the person should not be assigned with any caste. For the purpose of reservation caste of any of the grand (or great grand) parents must be considered. This means a person from a particular caste does not fall in the reserved category can make a provision of reservation for his/her children. A person must be allowed to claim reservation based on caste of his/her mother/father/grand mother/grand father/ great grand mother/great grand father. If any one of them belongs to a caste which is recognised for reservation the person shall be eligible for reservation.

This would help in integrating society through marriage and reservation shall come to an end after say 4 generations. Physical time shall depend on how quickly integration takes place.
